ILS Data: Millenium (III)

I thought Millenium was the client but from the website it appears to be the entire suite now. Again this info comes from people who work with the system.

Millenium

Export

Built In. Can dump Marc or CSV files of specific field data

Database Access

Extra. There is a Oracle option with an additional cost with the default being a proprietary database without access. From what I’ve heard the Oracle tables are not documented overly well. There also appears to be mysql used for some data as well.

API’s and Web Services

Extra. Z39 is offered as a product. There used to be an XML server but this appears to have been discontinued. There appears to be more web services in the works though they also appear to be additional products.

Update: There is a xrecord feature built in that allows the pulling of XML data for a specific record, however I’ve never been able to get it to list attached items which reduces the usefulness.

One thing that is worth mentioning is the built-in ability to pull a bib record in xml format using the xrecord command. Although I am extremely unhappy that iii have discontinued the xml server product (we never quite convinced ourselves to purchase it), I have always felt that xrecord was a pretty nice FREE feature.

Yes, I meant to mention that and it’s limitations. Since you reminded me it is a nice feature, however I’ve never been able to get it to show the attached item information (and status). If you’ve figured out how I’m sure many would love to know.

You are correct, xrecord does not return linked items. However, the z39.50 server can return results in xml format and does include item info.

Can someone describe how to use the xrecord functionality? What does the URL look like?

You need to know the bib number or the item record but it looks like this, similar to the normal record= link:

A couple other things to note about xrecord:

1. Leave the check digit OFF of the bib number or it won’t work.

2. You need to enable it in your wwwoptions file…I think it is XRECTYPE but if you search the manual for xrecord, you’ll find it.
