That Declunkifying your Z-Server article is actually almost the exact same way I implemented SRW for the OAI Research Pane. Used Zebra to index our OAI server (which is currently only providing some of the DMC collections) and then yazproxy to provide SRU/SRW.

Also, I believe Nathan Collins is implementing SRU/SRW for the awesome OAI data repository he is building. He is already indexing over four million records.
